We went with son's boy scout troop. Nice hike, was a little hot, no shade until you reach the oasis, so bring lots of water. The oasis is beautiful, but it (and the trail) was a little crowded. I was impressed that there was no trash on the trail or in the oasis (probably due to volunteer we saw there), but there is some graffiti carved into the palms. All in all, an excellent hike.
This was the first time I've ever been to Joshua Tree, and I was in such awe of the beauty. This is an awesome quick and simple hike, and within 20 minutes your car and civilization will be out of site. It was the perfect hike to get my first impression of the desert. I've never seen an oasis, and to be honest I was expecting a larger body of water. The palm trees and small ponds were an incredible sight nonetheless, that seemed to appear out of nowhere.
very rocky, very sunny. You feel that your hiking to nowhere and than there is a patch of paradise. Lots of palm trees and birds, nice place to have lunch. Easy hike, but take lots of water.
