We stay at the Bonito Campground near the Sun Set Crater in a 16 ft. camper. Great place, well kept. Within walking distance to lava flows and hiking trails. Bathrooms clean. Water available. We visit this campground regularly to beat the heat in Phoenix.
We stayed one night at Fort Tuthill County Campground. It's a beautiful spot, very close to Flagstaff. However, it is a very noisey campground (late night) and they maintain rather bright "street lights" all night. There was a high percentage of RV's & Trailers. people running their generators late at night, others staying up partying (as late as 1:30 AM). No enforcement of quiet time.
We stayed 3 nights at Cave Creek Campsite in Oak Creek near Sedona. The site is beautifully situated next to the creek, it is close to Slide Rock state Park, great fun for kids. The sites are well spaced and among Ponderosa Pines that provide plenty of shade. A fire pit, barbecue and table is provided for each site. Wood is available to buy on the site but is more expensive ($6 per bag) than local stores. There are vaulted toilets that are kept lovely and clean. Coin - Op showers are available. Sitting out at night with the fire in the pit and the smell of pines was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
