A short (1.3 mile), level, well-marked trail through very beautiful, rocky mountain terrain dotted with saguaro cacti and other desert flora. No shade to speak of - remember the sunscreen! Parts of the trail afford long vistas over the valley to the east, unfortunately including its crust of suburban sprawl. The rangers told us there were petroglyphs to be seen, but we spotted only a couple of unremarkable ones, on a large, black-surfaced bolder to the left toward the beginning of the trail. **Note that the Waterfall Trail (where the really nice petroglyphs are in this park) is CLOSED for "improvement" *at least* through January 08.
This is an easy and short trail that is a pleasant walk. For those looking for a little more challenge a short way into the hike is a waterfall canyon trail that breaks off to the right and provides a moderately challenging hike through some rocky terrain as it winds its way beside a wash basin up to where there is a waterfall. In November there was no water and it was a good hike; I would be cautious during monsoon season as portions of that trail could be dangerous during a heavy wash.
