Nice trail and easy going for most of the trail. The final ascent to the lake is a bit steep. Disappointed by the lake.
Our family of four, myself, my wife, and our two children ages 5 & 9 recently hiked to Lake Solitude. We found the hike from the Nordic Center to be relatively easy, but I advise taking a jacket. Even though it was August, it was windy and cool. The lake provides outstanding views. Following advice we had read before, we decided to proceed on to Twin Lakes. The switchbacks to Twin Lakes provide for a relatively steep climb. Our youngest had challenges. I would not advise going to Twin Lakes first (tough hike) and then on to Lake Solitude. Counterclockwise is much better. You could view Lake Solitude from increasing elevations along the switchbacks to Twin Lakesproviding great scenery. A hike back and forth to Lake Solitude alone is relatively easy and has very few climbs except right at the end and they were manageable.
