Several large rock outcroppings, which lie approximately one mile from the trailhead, offer hikers spectacular views of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Looking down from these rocky ledges gives you the sense of being on the top of a lofty mountain peak and may be frightening for some. At the trailhead sign on the north side of the highway, take the stairs to the right (east), where several switchbacks await on a warm south- facing slope. Avoid the temptation to cut Hike 8 Mill B North Fork Trail to Overlook 31switchbacks and enjoy the more gentle, established trail. The first switchback turns northwest, then the trail reaches a rock outcropping and heads into oak, maple, and juniper.

This is a great trail, although the first part of the trail is kind of steep but it quickly levels out and the rest of the inclines are gentle. The trail was wet in spots but nothing bad and the view from the overlook is terrific.
