As in Northwest L.A. County, the Angeles National Forest dominates the landscape, along with the San Gabriel Mountains. The Angeles Crest Scenic Byway (California 2), which runs 66 miles from LaCanada to Wrightwood, climbs to the crest of the San Gabriels, where mile after mile of scenic vistas unfold. Two visitor centers and four campgrounds are located along the route, with more campgrounds a short distance off the highway. A worthwhile side trip is Mount Wilson, where one of the world's largest telescopes is located. It provides sweeping views across the Los Angeles basin to the Pacific Ocean. Campgrounds included in this eTrail are: Saddleback Butte State Park, Monte Cristo, Lightning Point, Messenger Flat, Chilao Recreation Area, Bandido, Horse Flats, Sulphur Springs, Mount Pacifico, Buckhorn, Blue Ridge, Guffy, Lupine, Table Mountain, Apple Tree, Lake, Mountain Oak, Jackson Flat, Sycamore Flats, South Fork, Big Rock, Rocky Point, Sage, Basin, Coldbrook, Crystal Lake Recreation Area, and Manker Flats.
