Slickhorn Canyon, Access 4 is the most challenging route into the canyon outlined in this book. Seasoned canyoneers will find the route fun and interesting, while inexperienced canyon-country hikers will find it arduous and very difficult. Don’t attempt this route without prior off-trail canyon hiking experience. Expect slow going and considerable routefinding and scrambling to be necessary along the way. The floor of the wash is dominated by slickrock, and you descend gradually westward via a natural stairway of low ledges and sandstone ramps. Pinyon and juniper fringe the wash and cloak the slopes above, while white Cedar Mesa slickrock rims the drainage. The draw gradually grows deeper but remains quite shallow for some distance ahead, and at first the walking is easy and trouble free.
