Bell Rock is one of the most appealing rock formations in the Sedona area. This is a very arid area. The Bell Rock trail itself is close to the road, and highway traffic can be heard along the course of this trail. However, we did see a couple of road runners along this trail, which was exciting for me.
The side trail(s) up the rock are challenging and enjoyable. Definitely worth the scramble up the rocks. The best trail that we walked in this area was the Courthouse Loop. It is a flat and pretty easy trail that leads away from the road. With the buttes cutting off the sound of the roadway, the illusion is created of getting away from civilization at bit. This trail was also much less busy than the ones in the immediate vicinity of Bell Rock. We came upon a flock of pinon jays. The sun was getting low in the sky, and the birds were beautiful in that light.
We took the Courthouse loop trail then scrambled up Bell Rock. The loop is a nice easy trail that takes you back into some quiet desert. Climbing up Bell gives you some nice views to top off you experience. Beautiful Country!
