Saddleback Butte State Park is little known, well run, and very convenient to the Los Angeles area. It lies just over the hill on the Antelope Freeway, an oasis in the creeping suburbia of Antelope Valley. I like the park because of its proximity to Los Angeles. It’s perfect for a quick desertcamping trip if you don’t have time to drive to Joshua Tree National Park or Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
