Once the location of Gold Rush prospecting and the backdrop for Hollywood movies, Red Rock Canyon State Park now preserves a dramatic desert landscape. Softly colored green, brown, peach, red, and white folded sandstone rock formations, sculpted by earthquakes and wind- and rain-weathering, tower above the desert floor. The park is bisected by a highway, and most people just get a glimpse of the cliffs from their moving vehicles. Although the desert seems drab and barren at 65 miles per hour, when you stop and slowly take it all in, the desert comes alive with fascinating geology, plant life, and animals.

Just wanted to update the cost of a campsite here is $25/night. Had a fun time the two days we were there.
