A long, strenuous day hike or overnighter. Like other trails leaving Island in the Sky, the Wilhite hike includes a big hill. Although the Gooseberry Trail has the reputation of being the toughest climb in Island in the Sky, the Wilhite has more elevation change (1,600 feet, compared to 1,400 feet for Gooseberry). However, that elevation change is spread out over more miles of trail. Like other trails leaving Island in the Sky, the Wilhite hike includes a big hill.
