Great Hike but very crowded. Go to the Turret arch as well, and you can really climb around on the rocks. Makes for great picture taking as well.
If visiting the Windows, you MUST hike the primitive loop. It is the only way to get a view of both Windows together.
This was a great short hike. We had some company but it wasn't a problem. I got a great shot through the turret arch to the north window. The back loop was worth the extra effort as well, with great views.
I don't find the trail description given to be very accurate. While we did see many people hanging out at the North Window, traffic was light on most of the trail, and nonexistant once we got onto the primitive trail that loops around the back of the windows. Literally nonexistant; not a single soul ventured back that way. And we visited in the middle of the day! My advice for avoiding the crowds at Arches is to stick with the primitive trails. It seems to scare the casual tourist off, and the trails are a real adventure. This particular trail is worth the extra mileage due to the views of the park to the east, and the dramatic views of the two windows, towering much higher above from the back side. There is some shade to be found, but don't forget to bring water. The last bit of the trail runs through deep sand before coming out in the parking lot.
