A day hike up a broad canyon to the top of Canaan Mountain, ending at the junction with the Broad Hollow Trail. This trail provides an easier but longer journey through the Canaan Mountain Wilderness Study Area to the top of Canaan Mountain, with a massive dome of slickrock known as The Beehive as the main attraction. The hike begins on a heavily beaten all-terrain vehicle trail that descends to cross the wash of Water Canyon. After mounting the bluff beyond, the route follows a road and a fenceline through piñon-juniper scrub before descending to cross the watercourse of Short Canyon. It then wanders up the bottomlands of this broad canyon, alternating between groves of cottonwood and sandy shrub fields. The conical butte that is visible ahead is The Beehive.
