A day hike along the Virgin River, from the Court of the Patriarchs viewpoint to the Grotto trailhead. Following trails along the west bank of the Virgin River, this short hike provides an alternative to the scenic drive for visitors who prefer to experience nature outside their cars. The trail is level and easy, but is heavily traveled by horse parties between the Emerald Pools trailhead and the Court of the Patriarchs. Nonstop views of Zion Canyon are found all along the route, and the lowlands along the river are excellent places to spot birds and, in twilight hours, mule deer.
