Blockbuster vistas from yet another ridgeline road. Here in the San Gabriel Mountains, you’ll be in the geologic and climatic meeting place of the southern Sierra Nevada (the Tehachapi Mountains), the Mojave Desert (Antelope Valley) and the South Coast Ranges. Although this road is some 50 miles from the ocean, it is in the east-west trending Transverse Ranges, one of the four geologic regions that make up California’s coastal mountains. This drive provides views of the transition from churning coastal mountains to grassy hills and the arid Mojave Desert. Most of the road follows part of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (hiking).
