The road was closed. There were permanent signs along the road from Farmington saying "Locked Gate Ahead". The signs look like they'd been there for quite some time (there were bullet holes and dents in a few of them). There was indeed a locked gate in the trail blocking any traffic through.
During the summer of 2011 the Farmington side of the trail was closed because some of the roads in Farmington Canyon where washed out from the snow pack from the previous winter. Still a good drive with great views of the wasatch valley.
Nice easy trial with no technical obstacles, which can be done in any vehicle that has at least a foot of ground clearance. The trail is mostly a two lane dirt road, but as you get closer to the top of the mountain it narrows to about a lane and half. There are some areas to pull off and let others pass. This trail would be good for ATV as there are many side trails that can only be accessed by smaller vehicles. If you access the Bountiful side there is an area at the beginning that has a lot of ATV trails.
The main trail can be driven with almost any vehical. But the long finger trails are a top notch drive for 4x4's. the senery is awsome.
