This high (over 8,000 feet much of the way) mountain road provides great views of the Lake Tahoe Basin, especially from the 9,150-foot summit of Genoa Peak. Along the northern segment, Logan House Road, a side route just west of Genoa Peak Road, is a pretty alternative to Genoa Peak Road. At the south end, Genoa Peak Road used to be an eroding maze of dirt tracks. In addition to erosion control efforts, the Forest Service has obliterated the confusing spurs, and now the route is easy to follow. About 1.3 miles north of the Tahoe Rim trailhead, the road crosses a small basin. Go straight, over a hump. At about mile 3.5 is the left (west) turn for Logan House Road (14N33 on the signposts; 14N24 on the map). Look for a white DESIGNATED ROUTE marker. It’s a pleasant drive through aspen stands, meadows and conifer forest strewn with granite.
