I hiked a portion of this trail as a "day hike" addition to my hike down into the canyon using the S. Kaibab Trail. I camped in Bright Angel Campground.
I hiked the first 1.5 miles of this trail (relatively steep, but safe) - up to a scenic overlook point that looks over Phantom Ranch and the Bright Angel Campground. The CCC (presumably) built a stone bench at this point in the trail.
I would have enjoyed going further on this trail, but it was well over 100 at 11am in early June and I was hiking solo on this dayhike - played it safe and turned around at the overlook spot and returned to the trail head.
This is a MUCH smaller trail than the "cooridor" trails (Kaibab & Bright Angel). Most of this trail is single or 1.5 person wide. The area that I hiked was well marked (easy to follow). Very scenic - I rated 3 of 5 only because I didn't see much of the full trail. What I hiked was beautiful though.
