Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country approximately one hour from Austin, this popular state park still manages to give the tent camper a bit of solitude and relaxation. A caveat: avoid the RV and day-use areas on summer weekends, when the cool water acts as a magnet to every overheated Texan within driving distance. This is most evident in the Devil’s Waterhole area, where the pink granite–like rock outcroppings provide natural diving platforms for the young at heart and brave to test their nerve.
