In Zion National Park, 91% of the land has been recommended for wilderness designation. In addition, there are 10 small parcels of adjacent BLM land that are wilderness study areas. These parcels would not normally qualify for wilderness designation because each is less than 5,000 acres in size. Their proximity to recommended wilderness within park boundaries justifies their inclusion in wilderness management plans. Most of these WSAs are access points or continuations of Zion National Park hiking routes. Two significantly larger BLM wilderness study areas are adjacent to the southeastern and southern Zion borders: Parunuweap Canyon and Canaan Mountain. This trail guide includes descriptions of Kolob Arch and La Verkin Creek.
