Most visitors to the Grand Staircase– Escalante National Monument don’t realize that Mud Spring Canyon and The Blues are part of the monument and are wilderness study areas. Mud Spring Canyon WSA is south of UT 12 and The Blues WSA is north of the highway. The closest towns are Henrieville, Cannonville, and Tropic—all small towns along the highway with limited but sufficient services for visitors to the monument and to nearby Bryce Canyon National Park. Escalante is the nearest town with a full array of services. This trail guide includes descriptions of Table Cliff Plateau and Powell Point.
