I started on theJohn Muir trail from Happy Isles trailhead through Little Yosemite Valley to a branch trail going to Merced Lake 13 miles in from the trailhead. Spectacular scenery! The Vernal and Nevada falls are the first points. After that come Moraine Dome and climbing in elevation to Merced Lake along the river. Spectacular viewing all along. I saw two bears also. The crowds were thick at Vernal and Nevada but quickly thinned out after passing Nevada and getting into the backcountry. The ascents were demanding but the scenery made it worth it.
