These two beaches are popular destinations for daytime visitors from the Bayside. This beach encompasses estuary of San Gregorio Creek at the point where it runs into the ocean. The State of California owns these estuarine lands on both sides of the creek east of Highway 1, while the Peninsula Open Space Trust has conservation easements or ownership of lands on the north, south, and east of San Gregorio State Beach stretching almost to the town of San Gregorio. These lands someday may provide valuable trail links to the coast. San Gregorio’s large beach, with a cave under the cliff at its north side, tempts the visitor to walk south for long distances. This trail guide includes the following trails: San Gregorio and Pomponio State Beaches, Pomponio State Beach, Pescadero State Beach and Pescadero Marsh, Sequoia Audubon Trail, North Pond Trail.
