From the San Mateo/Hayward Bridge the Bay Trail continues around the perimeter of Foster City. You can walk or ride a bicycle for more than 6 miles cir- cling the city. Marshland, where resident shorebirds congregate and migratory waterfowl rest and nest, lies between the path and the Bay. Foster City, once a marsh and tidelands threaded by a system of sloughs, is now a city of homes and apartments, shopping centers, and office complexes. In mitigation for the taking of these wetlands, BCDC required public access and marsh restoration at the Bay’s edge. This trail guide includes the following trails: Circling the City on Foot or Bicycle.
