If sightseeing is on your agenda, then Lakeshore is a great place to visit. This picture-perfect lake rests in a meadow encased by partly timbered slopes and rolling tundra. It reminded us of the scenery in The Sound of Music. You should have seen Brad running down the hill much like Julie Andrews. The shortest route begins at Leidy Peak trailhead, on the east end of the Highline Trail above Hacking Lake; the other starts at Ashley Twin Lakes. Both trails are well marked, but the trail from Hacking Lake is difficult to follow as it goes around Leidy Peak. The Hacking Lake route is at least a mile shorter and can be reached by car. Ashley Twin Lakes can only be reached by jeep, after figuring out your way through a maze of brutally rocky roads. Take our word on this one—use the Highline trailhead by Hacking Lake.
