Of all the lakes in the High Uintas, North Star is considered to be closest to the exact center of this mountain range. Due to this fact, access is possible from several locations. The shortest routes are found at either Center Park or the Swift Creek trailhead. From Swift Creek follow the Yellowstone Creek Trail 8.0 miles to the Garfield Basin junction, then proceed 4.0 miles northwest up a 1,600-foot incline to Five Point Lake. Past Five Point, keep following the Garfi eld Basin Trail 3.0 miles north then northeast to the Highline Trail. Then follow the Highline Trail another 0.75 mile north to North Star Lake. North Star is a popular stopping point for backpackers making the Highline trek. Although only a few mediocre campsites exist, it is the only decent place to make camp in the area. If you are traveling via the Garfi eld Basin route, you may want to pitch your tent at Five Point Lake and save North Star Lake as an exciting day hike.
