Grandaddy Lake—the name implies that it is the largest and best of all the lakes. Is it the largest? Yes, it is easily the largest natural lake in the High Uintas. Is it the best? Judging solely by the number of backcountry visitors, the answer to that question also is yes. Usage is very heavy at this well-known lake, but it seems to handle the pressure well. The crowds can scatter to numerous campsites around Grandaddy’s irregular shoreline. Litter can be a problem, so please clean up your mess, leaving a spotless campsite for the next guests.

Like MacDawg said, its not too long, but it does rise steep the first 2 miles or so to the summit. The trail is well marked, and varies from rocky, sandy, and hardstone. We were met with VERY cold temperatures and in the morning nearly all puddles, meadows and lake edges were iced over.

Fairly rocky trail, but not too long. A good, solid climb, then it levels off before a quick drop to the basin and the lake. A beautiful lake and a good trail.
