Winding alongside the Yellowstone River through the aptly named Paradise Valley, US 89 from Livingston to this campground’s turnoff is one of the most scenic in the state. With the Absaroka Mountains to the east and the Gallatin peaks to the west, even views from the roadway are incredible. Fly-fishing and floating are the draw for this stretch of river, and scores of multimillion-dollar ranches attract the rich and famous. Access to this area hasn’t always been this easy. When Yellowstone National Park first opened, US 89 was merely a trail.
