A short but strenuous base-camp trip into the heart of the Beartooth’s alpine country. This trailhead is slightly harder to locate than most others in the Beartooths, but this hasn’t lessened its popularity. At this altitude, the summer season is very short. Ice may not free the lakes until mid-July. The moist tundra tends to produce a prodigious number of mosquitoes when the wind isn’t blowing. Bring lots of bug dope. Special attractions: The stark beauty of this high plateau area and a wide diversity of potential side trips.
