The trail to Siah Lake offers a challenging hike for folks looking to spend an afternoon or weekend at a nice lake in the woods. Beginning high on Beaver Ridge, the route drop sharply into Storm Creek, follows the slow-moving watercourse upstream for several miles, and climbs to almost the starting elevation on the opposite side of the canyon—a V-shaped profile that makes the hike every bit as rigorous on the return trip as on the inbound hike. The trail is generally in good shape and holds up well to the heavy horse traffic it receives. Experienced and well-conditioned hikers can tackle Hidden Peak as a day hike, but since the trailhead involves a long (2-hour plus) drive for most people, treating this as an overnighter is perhaps a better choice.
