This trail offers access to a beautiful but shallow mountain lake well suited for a summer visit. The route is easy to follow and in good condition over most of its length, and except for the final mile to White Sand Lake, the grade is quite gentle. White Sand Lake is one of the more secluded lakes in the high Bitterroots but has attracted increasing attention from stock users in recent years, including those who make their way to the lake from base camps on the Montana side of the Bitterroots.
