This hike provides strenuous passage to a remote mountain outpost that—according to one veteran fire watchman—typically sees fewer than two dozen visitors each summer. Though not exceptionally high, the mostly open summit of Bear Mountain offers striking views of the surrounding country. The trail beyond Warm Springs Creek is lined with huckleberries and is surprisingly well maintained in spite of its light use.
