In the early 1800s, Livingston was a bustling railroad town with a supply store and a locomotive repair shop. Today, serious farming and ranching support the local economy, and the townspeople have developed interesting pastimes. Next to the feed store in Livingston you just may find one of several art galleries featuring fine art, western art, and local and regional art. This town probably has more art galleries per resident than any other town in the West. No doubt, it has more real cowboys, too. The town also claims more restaurants per capita than any other Montana town, so you won’t go hungry in Livingston! One has only to look around to be impressed by the natural setting of the town. The impressive Absaroka-Beartooth Mountains rise to the east, while the equally beautiful Gallatin Range marks the western horizon. Meandering on the edge of town is the Yellowstone River, and not far away, the blue-ribbon Boulder River flows amiably through mountains and prairie lands, luring in avid fly-fishing enthusiasts.
