Three small lakes are held in the southernmost glacial valley on Glacier’s east side, Two Medicine. The crooked valley twists between sentinel-like peaks, which surround crystal clear Two Medicine Lake on three sides. A hiking companion, who teaches high school English, poetically says these mountain create, for her, an “embracing serenity.” Historically the area has always been considered by Native Americans a special place with great medicine, hence the name. Visitors to the area will find that the towering mountains provide plentiful opportunities for play.
The lake and creeks offer water play for the young, though the glacial water is icy cold. During my most recent stay at Two Medicine, I was delighted by the number of families fishing from small boats or along the lakeshore. The fishing must be rewarding here, whether or not the catching is any good. This eTrail provides detailed information on family-friendly things to do. The destinations include: Running Eagle Falls, Appistoki Falls, Twin Falls, Aster Falls and Paradise Point, and Pray Lake.
