The dry, east side of Glacier National Park offers Rocky Mountain magic equal to, but nicely different from, the moister west side. Ecosystems and plant life change as you go over Logan Pass toward plains country. The mountainous areas still have forests, but support species that thrive on drier soils. As you enter valley areas, prairie ecosystems take over. There will be more sun and wind on the east side, though weather patterns will still be as variable here as they are anywhere in the mountains. There are four major glacial valleys to visit in Glacier National Park’s east side, each with spectacular mountain scenery and crystal clear lakes. The St. Mary Lake area, with Going-to-the-Sun Road passing through the valley, is the most developed. This eTrail provides detailed information on family-friendly things to do. The destinations include: St. Mary Lake, St. Mary Falls and Virginia Falls, Sunrift Gorge and Baring Falls, Sun Point and Baring Falls, and Rising Sun.
