The Bozeman Creek Trail is located in Sourdough Canyon directly south of Bozeman. Its close proximity to Bozeman makes this a popular trail for hikers and bikers. The trail is an old logging road with a gradual ascent that follows the creek through a spruce and fir forest. The trail leads eleven miles up canyon to Mystic Lake. The trail follows Sourdough Canyon uphill parallel to Bozeman Creek. It climbs gradually but steadily. The trail continues alongside the northeast side of Bozeman Creek to Mystic Lake, 11 miles from the trailhead. Choose your own hiking distance, and return along the same trail.

With it's steady grade, this trail is okay for beginners for the first couple of miles but grows tedious beyond that. Make room for LOTS of mountain bikers.

This trail is very popular with families. It is a road that travels along the creek. We used to take our kids and walk awhile and let them stop and play in the creek. The lake is beautiful. Be sure to lock your cars and keep valuables out of site as it is a popular place for thefts. It is a super trail though and well worth the trip.
