Sypes Canyon follows a creek-fed canyon on the west side of the Bridger Mountains. The hike leads through a lush, shady forest and up the south canyon wall. The hike ends at an overlook with outstanding views of the Gallatin Valley, Bozeman and the Madison and Tobacco Root Mountain Ranges. Head east past the trail sign and through a grassy, fenced access. Enter a lush forest canopy into Sypes Canyon on the right side of Sypes Creek. Cross over to the north side of the creek, and head up the north wall of the canyon above Sypes Creek. At a half mile, the trail reaches a ridge. Descend alongside a rock wall cliff into the lush, forested canyon. Curve right at one mile, heading south up the canyon while skirting the edge of the national forest boundary.

Nice trail with incredible views near the top of the Madison range, Spanish Peaks and the entire Bozeman valley. It is a decent hike, I would call it moderate. You have the choice to continue on up toward the ridge line and can then go left to Fairy Lake or right to the "M" trail. Just know that both are quite a good hike away. It would be a good full day hike and a camp out on the trail somewhere. Nice 3-5 hour day hike though for some awesome views and a picnic!

A decent trail with some variety between foreste areas and open rock canyons. Some nice views. Not overly strenuous but you'll get some reasonable exercise.
