The North Fork of Howard Creek drains through a narrow, forested canyon and merges with Howard Creek shortly before its confluence with Lolo Creek. The headwaters of the remote creek begin just south of Wagon Mountain Road at 5,1 00 feet. This hike heads north up the canyon, following the course of the creek through a lush riparian habitat. The trail is infrequently used, offering quiet solitude in a beautiful canyon. Walk up the old dirt road on the east side of the North Fork of Howard Creek. The creek can be heard, but the lush forest hides the creek from view. Follow the east wall of the canyon for a half mile to the end of the road. Continue straight on the footpath, and descend through dense riparian vegetation.
