This was a decent hike with some nice scenery. The trail difficulty was easy. The lake was pleasant and the dog loved to go for a swim. The waterfalls were raging. Lots of mist. Would be fun on a hot day. The trail traffic was on the heavy side so don't expect a wilderness experience. For a bonus, take the trail that goes to the upper falls. It is steep and difficult but you will leave the crowds behind. Overall, this is a very nice easy hike.
What an absolutely lovely day hike! Morrell Falls trail is easy, yet satisfying as it winds through shady forest first to pretty Morrell Lake and then on to the spectacular Morrell Falls. Even on a hot day, sitting by the falls is a cooling delight of whitewater spray. My children were delighted with the destination, as were we. My favorite part was enjoying the jewel-like multicolored stones that make up the bed of Morrell stream. Gorgeous! The one downside is that the trail is very popular, so there is no solitude. However, considerate hikers seem to go there as the trail was clean and the people were friendly, so sharing wasn't bad at all.
Wow, its hard to believe the trailhead is still accessible by 4WD vehicle this time of year, but that can change with the next snow. Then it will be time to snowmobile to Montana's biggest icicle.
