Mount Jumbo sits to the north of Mount Sentinel between Rattlesnake Valley and Marshall Canyon. The North Loop Trail winds through the northern region of Mount Jumbo Recreation Area and connects with Woods Gulch in the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area. The steep hillsides are a wintering range for herds of elk and mule deer. It is closed to hikers throughout the winter until May 1 . This trail (an old road) has a gentle grade and offers great views of Rattlesnake Canyon, Marshall Canyon, and across the Missoula Valley to the Bitterroot Range.
