Woods Gulch is a lush, streamside canyon along the southern end of Rattlesnake National Recreation Area. The 1 1 -mile Sheep Mountain Trail ascends through Woods Gulch, following the stream-fed drainage in a ponderosa and lodgepole pine forest. This hike follows the first 1.5 miles of the trail, climbing to the ridge above Marshall Canyon. From the ridge are great views of Marshall Canyon, the Marshall Ski Area, and the surrounding mountains. The Sheep Mountain Trail connects with the extensive trail systems in the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area and Mount Jumbo Recreation Area.
