This short, but scenic hike is the most basic loop that can be hiked in the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area. It is a perfect introduction to the area. Rattlesnake Creek flows through the heart of this magnificent recreation and wilderness area on the north edge of Missoula. Snow-melt, high-mountain lakes, and springs feed the 23-mile cascading creek. This hike loops around both sides of the tumbling waterway. Along the way are rocky cliffs, grassland meadows, and a forest of ponderosa pines.
