Yellowstone National Park is a magnificent area with beautiful, dramatic scenery and incredible hydrothermal features. Within its 2.2-million acres lies some of the earth’s greatest natural treasures. An extensive network of hiking trails weaves throughout the mountains and valleys of the park. The Black Butte Creek Trail begins just northwest of Black Butte. The trail parallels Black Butte Creek up a beautiful forested drainage to a meadow at the base of King Butte. The narrow valley has aspen, lodgepole pine and Douglas fir. This trail is an access route up to Big Horn Peak, Shelf Lake and the summit of Sheep Mountain.
