This trail penetrates some of the most spectacular scenery of the Birch Creek drainage. It travels through a rather open valley flanked by sheer rock pinnacles on its way over the divide and into the Badger–Two Medicine country. The terminus of the trail is Badger Pass, from which trails descend into the Cox, Badger, and Strawberry creek drainages. The pass below Family Peak is generally free of snow from June on. Access to the trail is a bit tricky, because the trail around the northern shore of Swift Reservoir crosses the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and is currently closed to the public.
