This trail offers a good-quality route into the northern end of the Sun River Basin. The trail has been reconstructed recently, but the old trail bed still remains on the ground, running in tandem with the new trail up to Route Creek Pass.
In general, the uppermost trail is the new and currently maintained version, while the old trail bed stays closer to the Middle Fork of the Teton. Beyond the pass, the valley of Route Creek has largely escaped the rages of the Gates Park fire.
