This hike represents the northern leg of the South Fork Teton-Blacktail National Recreation Trail. It follows north-south valleys behind the reefs of the Rocky Mountain Front, crossing several passes and periodically revealing fine views of the Sawtooth Range. The trek begins with a crossing of the South Fork of the Teton River, a challenging ford in June that turns into an easy rock-hop by late summer. On the far bank, the path climbs onto the spruce-clad terraces that line the east bank of the stream. Soon it zigzags lazily upward, entering a Douglas fir forest that allows occasional peeks at the Sawtooth Range.
