This trail is used primarily for resupplying the fire lookout atop Beartop Mountain, but also provides a fine day trip for travelers in the Gates Park area. The trail crosses the swampy eastern side of the Sun River Basin and climbs steeply to reach the lookout. Hikers who prefer to keep their feet dry will find the first half of the trip quite unpleasant; this journey is best suited for semi-aquatic travelers.
