This route begins at the Benchmark entry point, the most heavily used access point for the Bob Marshall Wilderness. It follows the heavily traveled Sun River Trail for the first several miles, then turns west along the less frequently traveled West Fork of the Sun. This latter portion of the route offers scenic delights of its own, as well as providing an important access route to travelers bound for the Chinese Wall, the Pearl Basin, and White River Pass.
