This trail accesses the high country surrounding Whitcomb Peak, passing some fascinating rock formations on its way to a subalpine pond. The high altitude of the trailhead makes this route one of the easiest routes to the timberline, but the road to the trailhead does not open until the first of July. The trail to Gunsight Lake can also be used as a travel corridor into the Miner and Schafer Creek drainages for travelers who are looking for an extended journey.
