A backpack from Chief Mountain Customs to Belly River Ranger Station. The trail to Stoney Indian Pass begins in common with the Belly River Trail, which it follows for 6 miles before splitting off to the north at the Belly River Ranger Station. Start off from the Chief Mountain Customs, on a ridge overlooking the Belly River Valley. It immediately enters a dense stand of lodgepole pines before descending steeply down the ridge face. When the trail reaches the valley floor, it turns south, following the gentle grade of the Belly River through grassy meadows and stands of pine and aspen.
